Summary

A rousing call to arms whose influence is still felt today

Originally published on the eve of the 1848 European revolutions, The Communist Manifesto is a condensed and incisive account of the worldview Marx and Engels developed during their hectic intellectual and political collaboration。 Formulating the principles of dialectical materialism, they believed that labor creates wealth, hence capitalism is exploitive and antithetical to freedom。

This new edition includes an extensive introduction by Gareth Stedman Jones, Britain's leading expert on Marx and Marxism, providing a complete course for students of The Communist Manifesto, and demonstrating not only the historical importance of the text, but also its place in the world today。

For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world。 With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines。 Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators。

THE most formative and quintessential piece of economic theory of not only the 20th century, but recorded human history。 it’s not a work to be used as the final product, but the basis on building a better tomorrow

I absolutely loved studying this book! I read it quite fast because I was so passionate about the topic。 I also appreciate efficiency。 Overall though, I am no expert in politics but definitely found the ideas expressed interesting, and will further look into political philosophy。 At times, I was shocked by the current relevancy of certain aspects of the book。 Furthermore, the introduction by François Chatelet and included analysis of Gotha's programme allowed for Marx's ideas to be more concrete I absolutely loved studying this book! Over a century ago! And before both World Wars and the Cold War! I don't know, but that just made the experience a lot more interesting to me。 Alright, I'm done。 。。。more

I'd never read this and today I decided, pretty much on a whim, to change that。 They went off! Points were made! It's funny and terrible that all of their critiques of capitalism are still applicable and completely valid today, more than 150 years later。 I'm not sure I gel with all of the suggested paths to reform, BUT I cannot stress how much I am not a philosopher。 I just read gay romance。 I'd never read this and today I decided, pretty much on a whim, to change that。 They went off! It’s strange to think about how this book has influenced history。 There are aspects of this manifesto that are so poignant (the fact that the more ‘disgusting’ a type of work is the less people are paid seems very relevant to this day) but other aspects seemed to be explored at the surface level。 Overall, I’m happy to have finally read this and I don’t know what else to say…

⭐: 1。5It honestly was not well written, the sentences were more convoluted than needed and it was just hard to read。 I'm usually really interested in political writings but it was honestly just boring and hard to finish。 ⭐: 1。5It honestly was not well written, the sentences were more convoluted than needed and it was just hard to read。 I'm usually really interested in political writings but it was honestly just boring and hard to finish。 。。。more
